Partnering in Africa

Entrust has been helping to meet the needs of the world’s over three million untrained church leaders since 1979, including those in Africa.

There is a saying in Africa that Christianity that does not make a difference is a thousand miles wide but only an inch deep.  More than a Mile Deep (MMD) is the name Africans have given to their partnership project. Entrust helps make the MMD partnership truly effective.

What are the main needs in Africa?

   1.    Courses that are biblical and contextual.

Most of the courses available in Africa come from outside the country. Africans need to design, write and field test a curriculum that addresses their intellectual world view, as well as practical issues of the heart.

   2.    Church-based discipleship that is holistic

(i.e., how can Christianity significantly impact the whole of Africa?)

Because of its coverage and the pastor’s position in society, the African church is well positioned to deal with social and economic issues as it shares the Gospel, but it need training to be able to do this in a way that is relevant.

   3.    African ownership of leadership training from the start.

Africans have always owned the process in MMD. African teams are managing, administering and implementing the production of and the process of testing the first and second generation training, as well as teacher training.

   4.    Partnering and cooperation with other groups.

Providing leadership training throughout sub-Saharan Africa (53 countries) for both men and women cannot be achieved by one organization on its own. MMD currently has 12 partner organizations.

Currently this cooperative effort has led to MMD leadership training in seven countries: Kenya, South Africa, Mozambique, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi.
