ACCOUNTANT

Summary:  The accountant reports to the CFO and is responsible for carrying out the policies and procedures of the finance department to maintain accurate accounting records and produce useful management reports. Such records and reports will conform to generally accepted accounting principles. The accountant prepares monthly and annual financial statements, accurately reflecting the financial position of the organization at the close of the period, and acts to assure that expenditures remain within the limits of the board-approved annual budget. The accountant also manages the day-to-day operations of the finance department, providing support for the finance team.

Location: Colorado Springs, CO/Headquarters office

Compensation: Salary

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Oversee the receipting and depositing of all funds received.
  • Oversee payments of all invoices, payrolls and reimbursements.
  • Prepare monthly closing entries and reconciliation of bank statements.
  • Provide monthly organization-wide reports for the CEO and board, and monthly reports of missionary and project accounts to Entrust staff.
  • Prepare for annual audit and filing of IRS form 990.
  • Maintain all funds in a manner consistent with IRS guidelines for a 501(c)(3) corporation, in a manner consistent with ECFA membership standards.
  • Maintain internal controls, procedures and policies.
  • Review and recommend changes to financial systems as necessary.
  • Develop annual budget for the general fund, to be approved by the board of directors.
  • Gather, review and summarize annual financial budgets from staff for board approval.

OUTCOMES

  • Entrust will achieve a clean annual audit.
  • Entrust will maintain 501(c)(3) status (deductibility of donations to Entrust).
  • Entrust staff partners will receive resources on a timely basis.
  • Entrust management, staff, board and donors will receive financial services and information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Qualifications

  • Prefer a bachelor’s degree in accounting plus two or more years of experience, preferably in fund accounting for non-profit organizations. Good working knowledge of the principles of accounting and current tax laws/trends, especially as they relate to internal controls, payroll and conditions for the deductibility of charitable contributions.
  • Ability to keep up with changes in laws and regulations affecting the organization and staff.
  • Willingness to continually upgrade accounting skills.
  • Familiarity with various programs and equipment used in the office as these affect job functions.
  • Aptitude for computers. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and pay attention to detail.
