DIRECTOR OF PASTOR-TO-PASTOR MENTORING

Summary:  Oversees Entrust’s Pastor-to-Pastor Mentoring ministry, which provides spiritual encouragement, practical training, resources and advice to pastors in various cultural settings. Recruits, trains and develops relationships with pastors in the U.S. and seeks to pair them with pastors – with emphasis on young pastors – in isolated regions or unsupportive denominational environments.

Reports to: COO

Commitment: Full-time, prefer minimum of 5-year-commitment

Location: Flexible. May live in U.S. with regular trips overseas

Compensation: Raise own support

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Study Jesus’ approach to making disciples in the gospels and how he built up his disciples for ministry.
  • Study how best to encourage, make disciples, provide practical training, practical resources and advice within each cultural context.
  • Develop training system to prepare U.S. pastors to mentor national pastors.
  • Develop relationships with goal of recruiting U.S. and national pastors for involvement in this ministry.
  • Visit, serve, listen, interact, encourage, brainstorm, problem-solve and pray with pastors serving as Entrust Pastor-to-Pastor Mentors.
  • Encourage and disciple mentor pastors in spiritual character and ministry skills.
  • Promote peer-encouragement and discipleship among pastors and church leaders through organizing or leading (by request of local pastors) pastors’ Bible studies, pastors’ retreats or training courses.
  • Accept invitations to serve, preach, teach, provide ministry training.
  • Offer new ideas, expand thinking, encourage isolated and discouraged pastors.
  • Introduce pastors to Entrust training methods, encourage and assist them in taking advantage of training opportunities.

OUTCOMES

  • Entrust’s mentor pastors will be equipped and encouraged in all aspects of their mentoring ministry with national pastors.
  • Mentor pastors and national pastors will grow in their relationships with Jesus Christ through mentoring and discipleship and through learning about each other’s lives and ministries.
  • Entrust’s mentor pastors and national pastors will develop mutually encouraging relationships.
  • National pastors will be better resourced and will learn practical ministry skills which are often overlooked in formal training.
  • Mentor pastors will gain real-life knowledge of God’s worldwide kingdom and worldwide needs and will pass along that knowledge in their teaching, preaching and everyday lives.
  • National pastors will be encouraged in all aspects of life and church ministry.
  • Pastors and church leaders will be equipped with ministry skills to strengthen the local church.
  • Pastors and church leaders will mentor and disciple other followers of Jesus toward spiritual maturity.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Qualifications

  • Genuine interest in and understanding of global leadership training.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross-cultural settings.
  • Prior pastoral/mentoring ministry experience (cross- or mono-cultural).
  • Ministry experience overseas (long- or short-term).
  • Successful completion of Entrust Facilitator Training and experience in use of this methodology.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken forms.
  • Experience in giving presentations to both small groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to prioritize workload.
  • Proven ability to provide one-to-one and team pastoral care.

Personal Qualities Desired

  • Ability to motivate and encourage disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Ability to adjust to possible changes in responsibilities.
  • Creativity and initiative in performing responsibilities.

Spiritual Qualities Desired

  • Growing Christian who is personally following Christ and active in a local church.
  • Consistent devotional life.
  • Ability to bring a spiritual perspective to work as demonstrated in attitude, faithfulness and interpersonal relationships with others.
  • Models life coaching in relationships.
  • Teachable spirit and servant’s heart. 
  • Agreement with Entrust Statement of Faith.
